Join us this February for an incredible series of events featuring Garry Nicholson, lead forecaster at the Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS), alongside local mountain expert Ollie from Climb Torridon.
Whether you are simply fascinated by the sky, curious about finding in-condition winter routes, or stepping onto snowy Munros for the first time, these sessions are designed to build your knowledge and confidence:
Spaces are limited for all three events, so take a look at the schedule and secure your spot today to make the most of the season ahead.
The Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) was established in 2003 by meteorologist Geoff Monk, originally founded to deliver bespoke, safety-focused weather forecasts specifically tailored to the unique microclimates of UK mountain regions. Today, MWIS produces daily detailed forecasts for ten mountain areas across Scotland, England, and Wales, serving as a primary safety resource for hillwalkers, climbers, and mountain rescue teams nationwide. Senior forecaster Garry Nicholson joined the organisation with an MSc in Meteorology and Climatology from the University of Birmingham. A keen mountaineer himself, Garry combines rigorous synoptic analysis with a practical understanding of mountain terrain—specialising in long-range pattern recognition, atmospheric dynamics, and interpreting complex winter conditions on the ground.
For these events alongside Garry will be Ollie, the Lead Guide here at Climb Torridon, a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor and Association of Mountaineering Instructors member. Ollie has extensive experience of winter climbing and mountaineering in the Torridon area and further afield. He’s climbed previously unclimbed peaks in Greenland, put up new routes in Morroco and Chile, spent many a month in The Alps, as well as much much more. Each winter he delivers a full season worth of courses finding the best of conditions each day for the guests on his courses. During this series he will be sharing this knowledge alongside Garry.
