Association of Mountaineering Instructors

The Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI) is the representative body for professionally qualified Mountaineering and Climbing Instructors in the UK and Ireland. It was formed in 1990 to represent the interests of the highly experienced mountaineers who have undergone rigorous training and assessment to qualify under the Mountain Training UK (MTUK) Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Scheme.

Why are we members of AMI at Climb Torridon?

Mountaineering and Climbing are unregulated in the UK. That means that anyone can set up as a company and offer the services we do here. We think it’s important you can trust your guides / instructors and would want to know they had passed a qualification to look after you effectively. By being members of AMI you can be sure that they are qualified to take you out into the hills and have spent many years becoming experienced in the craft. You can find out more about AMI from their website.
