Ice Climbing, Snowy Gullies, Airy Ridges and Scottish Mixed Climbing

Torridon has a wealth of climbs to offer. Liathach’s northern corries are famed for their Ice routes and regularly come into condition each season. It also offers buttresses, ridges and gullies on it’s famous sandstone cliffs. Beinn Eighe holds possibly the best Scottish mixed climbing venue to be found anywhere in Scotland. An Teallach has spectacular face climbs There are also a host of other locations in the Coulin, Fisherfields and Fannich in the surrounding area. This variety of climbing styles means we can offer great routes to suit all desires and abilities.

Routes of all Grades

Our guides are experienced keen climbers who love spending time in the hills in winter. From complete beginners to seasoned old hands looking for a climbing partner we can tailor your day around you. We will guide all routes from grade I to grade V or even harder for those that desire.

What to Expect

Once we have received your enquiry we will discuss with you your aims and objectives for the day. A few days beforehand your guide will be in touch to firm up plans based upon the snow and weather conditions. On the day itself expect an early start and a full day out in the hills.

Who is winter climbing for?

This is for anyone who has previously done any summer or winter climbing and wishes to be guided up a fantastic route.

Location

We are based around Gairloch and Torridon. However, we can travel throughout the whole of the North Highlands. Examples of routes we could do locally include; Haystack Gully (I) An Teallach, Northern Pinnacles (II) Liathach, George (III) Liathach, East Buttress (IV), Beinn Eighe, Poachers Fall (V) Liathach amongst many more.

Accommodation

You may book accommodation (which includes breakfast and dinner) through us, or make your own independent arrangements.

The Old Inn, Gairloch – January to March 2026

For our 2026 winter courses we are working with The Old Inn in Gairloch. A well-appointed, traditional inn serving as an excellent base for your Guided Winter Climbing days.

Pricing (which includes dinner, bed and breakfast):

  • £85 per person per night (twin or double room, shared occupancy)
  • £120 per night (single occupancy)

Full breakfast and a three-course dinner are included each day.

Staying independently

Gairloch remains the most practical choice, with local shops, fuel, and evening dining. Outside Gairloch are the villages of Torridon, Kinlochewe, or Poolewe are possible options, although they have fewer facilities in winter.

Ratios and Pricing

In order to provide the highest level of experience and safety we maintain low ratios. Below you can see the details. All trips are considered private bookings so you will not have to worry about sharing the climbing with others and the day can be tailored to your individual needs.

Guided Winter Climbing

Due to the technical nature of winter climbing our maximum group size is 2 clients per instructor.
Ratio Guided Ice / Winter Climbing – Full Day
1:1 £320
1:2 £170 per person

A 50% deposit will secure your booking, with the remaining balance due 4 weeks in advance of your trip. Full payment is only required at the time of booking if you wish to book a date within the next 4 weeks.
